‘DOPE’ Returns to Theaters Nationwide for Labor Day + DVD/Blu-ray Release Set

The stereotype-defying dramedy centers on a group of nerdy teens in Inglewood, California who are obsessed with 1990s hip-hop.

Break-out star Shameik Moore ( The Watsons Go to Birmingham ) leads a cast that includes Tony Revolori ( The Grand Budapest Hotel ), Kiersey Clemons ( Transparent ), model Chanel Iman , Blake Anderson ( Workaholics ), Zoë Kravitz ( Mad Max: Fury Road ), rappers A$AP Rocky , Tyga , Casey Veggies , and Vince Staples , Keith Stanfield ( Selma ), and Rick Fox ( Hit the Floor ).

DOPE was produced and narrated by Forest Whitaker , executive-produced by Pharrell , and co-executive produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs for Significant Productions, i am OTHER, and Revolt Films.

After causing a bidding war at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival , the indie film debuted in U.S. theaters on June 19, 2015 via Open Road Films, earning $16.8 million at the box office. Sony will distribute internationally.

DOPE closed the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival , and will be competing in the 2015 Deauville American Film Festival this month.

It will be available on VOD on Sept. 29 and DVD/Blu-ray on Oct. 13 .
