‘DOPE’ (2015) Soundtrack

Pharrell Williams has curated a soundtrack that the nerdy 90s rap-obsessed teens in Rick Famuyiwa ‘s DOPE would love!

The comedy-drama film, which hits theaters on June 19 via Open Road Films, follows Malcolm (played by Shameik Moore ), a high school student who is carefully navigating life in one of the toughest neighborhoods in Inglewood, California with aspirations to attend Harvard.

When invited to an underground party, he’s led into a gritty adventure filled with offbeat characters and bad choices that could allow him to go from being a geek to being dope to ultimately being himself.

The accompanying soundtrack features some of the titans of hip-hop’s golden era: Nas, Digable Planets, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Digital Underground, Naughty By Nature , and even Gil Scott-Herron .

Pharrell also contributes four original songs with Awreeoh , Malcolm’s band with besties Jib ( Tony Revolori ) and Diggy ( Kiersey Clemons ), and Zoë Kravitz ‘s band LolaWolf offers a track as well.

The DOPE soundtrack is out on June 16, 2015 . Watch Awreeoh take down social media in their brand new video for “Don’t Get Deleted,” and see the full tracklisting below.
