Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda, Viola Davis Cover Variety’s “Power of Women” Issue
Today Variety editor Claudia Elle took to Twitter to unveil five beautiful “Power Of Women” covers featuring Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Jane Fonda, Viola Davis, and Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley.These women will be honored at Variety’s sixth annual “Power of Women” luncheon as Lifetime Impact Honorees for their humanitarian efforts.
“The women of the entertainment industry are among the most passionate champions of philanthropy and affecting change for various causes,” said Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, publisher, Variety. “We’re thrilled to once again honor, through our seventh Power of Women initiative, an outstanding lineup of women who do just that.”
Held in partnership with Lifetime Television, the exclusive October 10th event will host 500 Hollywood insiders who will pay tribute to the philanthropic efforts of the honored women.
Jane Fonda is being recognized for her work with the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential, which focuses on teen pregnancy prevention and healthy choices.
Reese Witherspoon will be honored for her participation in the Malala Fund, which empowers girls through education in developing countries.
Jennifer Lopez oversees the Lopez Family Foundation, which works on access to medical care for women and children.
And Viola Davis supports childhood hunger organization Hunger Is, while Donna Langley will be honored for her work with women’s development organization Vital Voices.
“I always say that the little girl who is hungry is always with me,” Viola says. “I feel like why not use any kind of power I have to serve. There’s a famous saying that ‘to serve is to love.’ I don’t want my tombstone to just say I was a series regular and Oscar nominee.”
