Film and fashion’s ‘it” girl Lupita Nyong’o is featured in a colorful editorial inside Essence Magazine‘s March 2014 issue, titled “The Perfect Canvas.”

The actress is photographed by Philippe Salomon wearing selections from Vera Wang, Katrin Schnabl, and Alexandra Mor jewelry chosen by stylist Nick Nelson.

Her picture-perfect face is adorned in jewel toned eyeshadows and vibrant lipstick by celebrity makeup artist Matin, with manicure by Bernadette Thompson and hair by Bok-Hee.

For her interview, Lupita will dish on things like the decision to cut all her hair off. See a snippet and photos from the shoot below:

“I didn’t always wear my hair short. In my adolescence I always had long hair and it was relaxed. After the age of 19 I just got really feed up with going to the salon and it taking so much effort to look presentable before you leave the house. So one day I decided to cut it off and my mother was unamused. But she came around.”
