Album Sales: ‘Hunger Games’ Soundtrack Debuts at #1, Melanie Fiona Debuts in the Top 10

The Hunger Games Songs from District 12 and Beyond Soundtrack

The Hunger Games may be more anticipated then I thought. Not only is the movie the #1 movie in the United States, but the film’s soundtrack ( iTunes / Amazon ) has also managed to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart—with a total of 175,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan .

The 16-track soundtrack includes songs by Arcade Fire , Taylor Swift , KiD CuDi , Maroon 5 and many more.

This marks the first soundtrack to top the chart since Michael Jackson’s This Is It debuted in the position with 373,000 copies on the week dated November 14, 2009. The Hunger Games is also the first multi-artist film soundtrack since one week before This Is It , when The Twilight Saga: New Moon Soundtrack rose from #2 to #1 in its second week on the chart.

Adele still manages to hold the #2 position with 130,000 while last week’s #1 album, One Direction ‘s Up All Night , slipped to #4 with a total of 55,000 copies. Take a look at the Top 50 below:
