‘Frozen’ Remains Atop Albums Chart, 5 Seconds of Summer Debuts at #2

Billboard 200 Albums: Frozen Remains #1, 5 Seconds of Summer Debuts at #2

The soundtrack to Disney ‘s runaway hit film Frozen earns a ninth nonconsecutive week atop the Billboard 200 Albums chart this week with sales of 149,000 copies.

The album is one week away from tying Disney’s The Lion King for the longest run at #1 by an animated film soundtrack, after roaring for 10 nonconsecutive weeks at #1 in 1994 and 1995.

To date, Frozen has now sold 1.9 million copies and as been among the top three best-selling albums every week for the past 14 consecutive weeks.

Coming in at #2 on the chart is Australian pop/rock band 5 Seconds of Summer ‘s She Looks So Perfect selling 143,000 copies, with digital downloads comprising 75% of its first-week sales.

The EP’s debut is a bit softer than had been forecast almost two weeks ago, when some industry sources suggested it would sell between 150,000 to 200,000.

That estimate was based partly on strong pre-orders in the iTunes Store, which had been building its pre-order tally since late February. By last Friday, its first-week forecast was scaled back to around 130,000 to 140,000.

If you are like me and never heard of the band, they first gained attention last year after opening for One Direction on the bulk of its arena tour.

They will join the super band once more s 1D’s opening act for the Europe, U.S. and Canada legs of its stadium tour, starting May 23. Take a look at the full list of the Top 10 below:
