After a short theatrical run, 2014 Sundance hit Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) has been released to Blu-Ray and VOD through Amplify.

The strangely wonderful drama is based on the urban legend surrounding the death of Takako Konishi.

Konishi reportedly went missing in Minnesota in 2011 while trying to find the treasure depicted in the 1996 film Fargo. However, she actually committed suicide.

The indie feature stars Rinko Kikuchi (Pacific Rim / Babel) as a jaded Tokyo office worker, who is frustrated with her mundane life.

She becomes obsessed with a fictional movie that she mistakes for a documentary. Fixating on a scene where stolen cash is buried in North Dakota, she travels to America to find it.
