After a short theatrical run, 2014 Sundance hit Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) has been released to Blu-Ray and VOD through Amplify.

The strangely wonderful drama is based on the urban legend surrounding the death of Takako Konishi .

Konishi reportedly went missing in Minnesota in 2011 while trying to find the treasure depicted in the 1996 film Fargo . However, she actually committed suicide.

The indie feature stars Rinko Kikuchi ( Pacific Rim / Babel ) as a jaded Tokyo office worker, who is frustrated with her mundane life.

She becomes obsessed with a fictional movie that she mistakes for a documentary. Fixating on a scene where stolen cash is buried in North Dakota, she travels to America to find it.
