Watch: Trailer for South African Romantic Comedy ‘Tell Me Sweet Something’
Enjoy a first look at Tell Me Sweet Something (2015), a charming romantic comedy film promising to show a side of Johannesburg rarely seen.
Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Akin Omotoso (Man on Ground), the feature is inspired by love songs, 1997 romance classic Love Jones, and Omotoso’s desire to depict a celebration of love in the South African city he loves.
Starring Nomzamo Mbatha, Maps ‘Masego’ Maponyane, Thishiwe Ziqubu, Kagiso Lediga, Thomas Gumede, Thembi Seete and Mandisa Bardill, Tell Me Sweet Something tells the story of Moratiwa (Mbatha), an aspiring novelist with writer’s block (and lover’s block).
She hasn’t had much luck with love ever since her ex-boyfriend Norman went out to buy milk and never came back.
Tired of having a recluse as a best friend, Tashaka (Ziqubu) convinces her to party up a storm at a new club in the city; it is here that she meets South Africa’s #1 celebrity model, Nat Masilo (Maponyane), or as she nicknames him “The 45 Foot Man” on account of a huge billboard in which he features (in)conveniently situated directly opposite her bookshop.
The Rififi Pictures film, funded by Mvest Media (a division of Mvest Group), Ladies & Gentlemen, The National Film and Video Foundation, PANA TV, the Gauteng Film Commission, the Department of Trade and Industry, and a team of Crowd Funders, is scheduled for a nationwide (SA) release on the September 18, 2015.
Tell Me Sweet Something is produced by Robbie Thorpe, Ronnie Apteker, and director Omotoso.
