IFC has announced that Boardwalk Empire ‘s Michael K. Williams will star in its The Spoils of Babylon comedy miniseries sequel, titled The Spoils Before Dying .

He will play Rock Banyon, a jazz pianist-turned-private eye in Los Angeles’ 1950s jazz scene who becomes the prime suspect when his lead singer (who also happens to be his lover) is found murdered.

To prove his innocence, and avoid a death penalty, Rock uses the next 72 hours to clear his name, on the run, in a quest for the truth loaded with sex, murder, love and betrayal.

Will Ferrell will reprise his role as Eric Jonrosh, an author-turned-director who introduces each chapter of his book-to-screen adaptions.

Produced by Funny or Die, Spoils of Babylon premiered in January 2014 as a spoof of the epic-scale “TV event” miniseries adapted from bestselling novels which were prevalent on TV in the 1970s and 80s.

Written by Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele , and directed by Piedmont, it starred Tobey Maguire, Kristen Wiig, Tim Robbins, Jessica Alba, Val Kilmer, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Sheen , and Ferrell.

For her role, Wiig was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie.

The Spoils Before Dying will debut in Summer 2015.
