Bill Dukes ‘ 2011 Dark Girls documentary gave a voice to darker skinned women affected by damaging colorism. Now the director continues the dialogue with a new feature titled Light Girls .

Set to make its TV premiere on Oprah’s OWN network on January 19th, the film will “address the privileges and disadvantages of having lighter skin” and also provide solutions to heal.

As it explores skin color from “historical, sociological, psychological and scientific perspectives,” Light Girls will also delve into current issues of bullying, skin bleaching, and the popularity of #teamlightskin vs. #teamdarkskin on social media.

Produced by Stephanie Frederic ( Rwanda Rising ), the feature includes interviews with Soledad O’Brien, Iyanla Vanzant, Diahann Carroll, Tatyana Ali, Amber Rose, India Arie, KeKe Wyatt and more.
