“I hope that my presence on screens and in magazines will lead young black girls to get to the deeper business of being beautiful on the inside. There is no shade in that that beauty.”

Academy Award-winning actress and Lancôme Beauty Ambassador Lupita Nyong’o covers the October 2014 issue of Marie Claire UK , where she shares some personal tidbits and “Smart Beauty” tips.

“I can’t braid my own hair, but I really enjoy braiding hair for my friends,” she says. “What I love about my hair texture is that you can do all sorts of angular shapes with it. Braiding it tells a story; it’s like sculpting the locks.”

She continues: “Braiding hair is an intimate thing, you have to get so up-close and personal, so I like to do it for people I know, love and trust.”
