Idris Elba’s Nelson Mandela-Inspired Album to Release in November
British actor, director, and music artist Idris Elba, who portrayed the late Nelson Mandela in the 2013 film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, is releasing an album inspired by the global leader titled, mi Mandela.
The 11-track project is set to be released on November 24th in Johannesburg, Mali and London via 7wallace (Idris’ imprint) and Parlophone.
On it we’ll hear South African musical talent such as Mahotella Queens, Nothembi Mkhwebane and Future History collaborate seamlessly with British artists Mumford & Sons, James Blake, Maverick Sabre and Mr. Hudson.
“South Africa has numerous different tribes, and each one has a musical expression, and each one has a very unique, different sound style,” Idris said in the album announcement below. “I had my studio at the apartment I was staying in while I was making Mandela – a little keyboard, a laptop – and as an experiment to myself, I vowed to keep making music.”
The album’s first single is “You Give Me Love,” featuring Maverick Sabre, which will debut on November 10th. You can pre-order mi Mandela now on iTunes.
The No Good Deed star musically goes by the name “Dris,” and he also directed and appeared in the music video for Mumford & Sons’ “Lover of The Light“ in 2012.
