BANKS’ Official Music Video for “Drowning”

Alternative R&B songstress BANKS teams up with i-D Magazine and director Mike Piscitelli to present new visuals for yet another addictive offering, “Drowning.”

“Take it from the girl you claim to love / You’re gonna get some bad karma,” she sings in a hall of a mirrors. “From the girl who used to make you soup / And tie your shoes when you were hurting / You are not deserving…”

The dark Al Shux-produced track appears on the L.A. native’s highly anticipated studio debut album, Goddess.

The album follows the success of her London EP in 2013, which garnered a widespread fan base and sold out shows in the U.K., as well her hometown.

Three songs from the EP will appear the debut set: Waiting Game,” “This Is What It Feels Like,” “Change,” and (my personal favorite) Bedroom Wall.

Goddess‘ lead single is Brain,” a venom-packed and ghostly Shlomo-production, which premiered on January 28, 2014. The song was accompanied by a music video on March 17, 2014.

The forthcoming LP’s female-empowering title track surfaced as a second single on April 29, 2014.

“I don’t think I have just sombre music,” BANKS tells i-D. “Especially on this album I have some spicy tracks, and some fluorescent-bright tracks that don’t feel dark blue. But I always have to be in some sort of emotional headspace – there’s a scale, we don’t have one way of feeling and I don’t write when I have just one emotion, but I definitely have to be feeling emotional.”

Set to be released on September 8, 2014 in the UK and September 9, 2014 in the U.S., additional producers for Goddess include Sohn, Lil Silva, and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.
