Watch: Michael Kors Talks New Shanghai Flagship with Business of Fashion

Today, New York City-based fashion designer Michael Kors sat down for a chat with Business of Fashion‘s founder/editor-in-chief Imran Amed at the new Michael Kors flagship store in Shanghai, China.

In front of an exclusive crowd at the city’s Jing An Kerry Centre, Michael and Imran talked about the opening of the new store, his personal and professional journey from humble beginnings in Long Island, and turning Michael Kors into one of the fastest-growing global brands, which now has over $2 billion of annual revenues and a market capitalization of more than $18 billion.

The Shanghai location, the brand’s largest in China, is 6,000-square-feet with a shimmering two-story facade reminiscent of a sequined gown.

Designed by the brand’s in-house team and New York-based architectural firm KPF, it is made up of screens of light-reflective facets.

“Our new flagship at Jing An Kerry Centre is not only the largest Michael Kors store in China but it also features an innovative, dynamic façade design that highlights the significance of this store,” said John Idol, CEO of Michael Kors. “The cutting edge nature of Shanghai retail and architecture, as well as the importance of China to our overall growth strategy, made the Jing An Kerry Centre an ideal location to expand upon our signature approach to the shopping experience, which we consider crucial to the brand’s identity. I’m looking forward to welcoming our customers to this extraordinary new store.”
