The eerie second half of “Warm Winds” receives the latest of SZA ‘s visuals from her studio debut, Z , which released April 8th.
Directed by APLUSFILMZ , who helmed SZA’s previous videos for “Babylon” and “Teen Spirit (Remix),” the beautiful clip cuts the first half of the double-track, which is produced by Mac Miller (aka Larry Fisherman) and The Antydote .
“Sometimes I bite my lips and close my eyes / Just to pretend it’s you,” SZA sings in the second verse. “Long live, lonely thoughts on Thursday nights / That’s when I think of you / We were all 13 once / Long live tramp stamps and Pepper Ann / You will never judge me for that / You will always love me for that…”
Joined by Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate, rapper Isaiah Rashad — whose vocals appear on the song, the St. Louis-born songstress walks down a country road, sits among wild flowers and is often shown running backwards.
Scenes are interspersed with flowers at a grave site, sparse trees and birds in flight.
Z debuted on the US Billboard 200 at #39, selling 6,980 copies in its opening week, peaked at #9 on the US Hip-Hop/R&B chart and #7 on the US Billboard Independent Albums chart, and entered the UK R&B Chart at #32.
It serves as the third project to drop from TDE, following Rashad’s Cilvia Demo (January 28) and ScHoolboy Q ‘s #1 charting Oxymoron (February 25).
The album also features collaborations with Kendrick Lamar , Chance The Rapper , XXYYXX , and Toro Y Moi .
