Saul Williams to Star in Tupac-Inspired Musical ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me’
Actor, spoken-word poet, writer, musician, and activist Saul Williams is set to head the cast of Holler If Ya Hear Me, a new Broadway musical inspired by the lyrics of late rapper Tupac Shakur, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996.
Best known for the 1998 indie film Slam and his 2007 collaboration with Trent Reznor, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust, Saul will be joined by Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Jelly’s Last Jam), Tony nominee John Earl Jelks (Radio Golf), Christopher Jackson (In the Heights), Saycon Sengbloh (Motown The Musical / Fela!), and Dyllon Burnside and Joshua Boone, who are making their Broadway debuts.
Described as “a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change and hope,” Holler If Ya Hear Me was written by Todd Kreidler and is directed by Kenny Leon, with choreography by Wayne Cilento.
