On blending her passion for food and her new album:
“I was in the studio working with Dave Sitek and I was trying to make some jerk ribs. Every day we’d meet and I would just cook. We would put in the computer whatever I made, whatever I was talking about making, whatever we were craving and we just sort of left some of those as the titles.”
On being a fashion chameleon:
“With fashion, I think like with everything else, you either have it or you don’t. It’s about knowing yourself. I used work in retail when I was younger and I remember watching women try on clothes and it was astonishing to me. [I’d be] like, ‘Why you try that on? I’m not being funny but it’s just not your look.’ I think what I learnt from my mum was knowing who you are and how people see you — and how you want them to see you, more importantly — and then being realistic about what you are. There are a lot of this that I see that I like, but I know they’re not me. It’s about being OK with that.”
On what to expect from ‘Food’:
“Hopefully nourishment. The album is beautifully honest and melodically sound. I think it feels like something that has een there all the time — to me, at least. It’s something I’ve wanted to make for a very long time so I’m oddly content.”
