With just two weeks left until Rio 2 hits theaters in the U.S., Janelle Monáe gave the animated film a serious boost with a phenomenal premiere of What Is Love on American Idol this Thursday.

The song will be featured on the soundtrack for the movie, for which Janelle will also be heard as the voice of a veterinarian.

For her energetic Idol performance, the petite powerhouse brought a Brazilian party to the stage, joined by costumed Samba dancers and drummers — who were also dispersed throughout the crowd, Brazilian flags for everyone to wave, and tons of confetti.

Set in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, Rio 2 also stars the voices of Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway,, Jamie Foxx, George Lopez, Tracy Morgan, Jemaine Clement, Leslie Mann, Rodrigo Santoro and Jake T. Austin.

The film’s premiered in Brazil on March 28, 2014, which will be followed by a UK release on April 4, 2014 and a worldwide release on April 11, 2014.

Produced by legendary Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes and English composer John Powell, the soundtrack also features guest appearances from Ester Dean, B.o.B, and Bruno Mars. The album will be available everywhere on April 8, 2014.
