Filmed in and around Harlem’s Owens Funeral Home and iconic Malcolm X Boulevard, the visuals for AKUA ‘s “ One’s Company “ are quite lovely, albeit haunting.
Helmed by her brother Kofi Carson , the dusky clip is “a metaphor for the death of a relationship,” the Ghanaian-Canadian singer told Noisey .
“It’s about death and rebirth, and that’s where the whole thing is kind of a loose metaphor. And it’s also about exploring the idea of ‘one’s company’ – a kind of slogan for independence. But then it’s like, I’m not sure how comfortable I am staying behind that mantra. Who wants to die alone? Who wants to end up alone?”
The loner’s anthem appears on the dark electro-soul songstress’ debut EP of the same name, which released in June 2013 ( iTunes / Amazon MP3 ). Enjoy the video for “One’s Company” below, as well as a stream of the full EP.
