Inside Flare Magazine ‘s August 2013 issue , cover girl Arlenis Sosa not only looks gorgeous as always, but we also learn a little more about her life growing up in the Dominican Republic.

The radiant 24-year-old global supermodel has a bit of a Cinderella story — transitioning from a basketball playing, motorbike-riding farm girl to becoming the face of Lancôme .

“One the island, we like curves. I wasn’t the beautiful girl.”

Before being immediately signed to modelling Marylin in New York City, Sosa was scared to show her father test Polaroids taken without his permission.

“You know those machos, don’t want their women to work. He’s one of those. It’s strange how open he was about me being a model. He was so happy.”

Photographed by Jason Kim , Sosa poses in Fall’s biggest statement pieces: contrasting textures, leather skirts, a glossy trench coat and more from the likes of Céline, Marni, Rodarte, Prada, Balenciaga , and Burberry selected by editor Fiona Green .

Her flawless makeup is done by Lora Spiga and her tresses are handled by stylist Wesley O’Mear. See the full shoot below.
