No really. The Electric Lady let’s it all out, including her famous up-do, for the official Dance Apocalyptic music video.

Unleashing her glorious crimped mane, the petite futuristic soul diva channels James Brown on stage in this Wendy Morgan -directed visual.

The clip is actually an excerpt from a short film called The Dance Apocalyptic , written by Chuck Lightning , which is set in an alternate version of present-day America.

The upbeat track will appear on Janelle Monáe ‘s forthcoming sophomore album The Electric Lady , out September 10, and will also be featured in her CoverGirl commercials.
