“He was public enemy #1. Hunted by the police. Feared by the government. Revolutionary. Outlaw. Rebel. Fighter. Radical. Liberator,” reads the first official trailer for the highly-anticipated Nelson Mandela biopic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom .
Based on Mandela’s 1994 autobiography, the Justin Chadwick -directed film, which stars Idris Elba , depicts the world leader’s journey from resilient anti-apartheid revolutionary to prisoner to South African president.
“Freedom, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
The trailer for the film gives us just a glimpse of the passion between Mandela and his second wife, social worker Winnie Madikizela ( Naomie Harris ), the profound violence and tension in South Africa, his unjust imprisonment for 27 years, and his election years later.
