Bruno Mars climbs back into the vintage vault to give us another nostalgia-inducing music video, this time for “Treasure,” the third single from his Unorthodox Jukebox album.
Pulling inspiration from 1980s pop/R&B titans like Prince & The Revolution, Morris Day & The Time, and Zapp & Roger , Mr. Mars and The Smeezingtons bring back all the cheesy elements that seemed so awesome at the time: flashy suits, garish visual effects, the infamous keytar (keyboard guitar), and synchronized dance moves.
Who doesn’t love star-bursts and neon lights?
Directed by Cameron Duddy and Bruno himself, the retro feel for “Treasure” is topped off with VHS color banding, much like Bruno’s Duddy-lensed, late 70s-inspired “Locked Out Of Heaven” video .
Shot in Las Vegas last month, the video stars producer Teddy Riley ‘s daughter, model/dancer Taja Riley .
Written by Bruno alongside Smeezingtons Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine , and Phredley Brown , who also produced the feel-good, disco tune, “Treasure” has peaked at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 , #13 on Pop Songs , and #16 on Adult Pop Songs since its June 4, 2013 release.
The song will surely rise up the charts next week after Youtube views are counted. Enjoy for yourself below.
