The new trailer for Lee Daniels The Butler shows us a film that seems quite unlike his previous controversial works, Precious and Paperboy .

The feature spans several decades in the life of Eugene Allen , the White House butler of 34 years who served eight presidents, retiring as chief butler and Maître d’ in 1986.

It boasts a top notch cast that includes Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, Colman Domingo, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Melissa Leo, Liev Schreiber, Jesse Williams, Aml Ameen, Lenny Kravitz, Cuba Gooding Jr , and many more.

“I’m trying to keep it [The Butler] PG13 which is not easy for me,” Daniels admitted. “It’s very un-Precious and un-Paperboy… I can’t go into my bag of tricks on this one […] I felt like I directed the film in handcuffs and a muzzle.”

Criticized by actor Harry Lennix , who reportedly called it “Niggerfied… Historical Porn, The Butler is a Laura Ziskin Production .

It’s produced by Pamela Oas Williams, the late Laura Ziskin, Lee Daniels , and Cassian Elwes , executive produced by Hilary Shor and Adam Merims ; and co-produced by David Jacobson .
