Though Tameka Raymond lost her son Kile Glover in a jet ski accident just last summer , the celeb stylist and entrepreneur (most recognized as Usher ‘s ex-wife) saw through the devastation and found an opportunity to change lives in her community.
In late March , she launched Kile’s World Foundation , an Atlanta-based non-profit that honors the memory of the vibrant 11-year-old, whose passions included acting, producing and performing music, and creating abstract art and photography.
The fine and performing arts-focused program will offer art-based camps to children aged 10-17 years old, and its multiple workshops will include acting, singing, dance, painting, illustration, music production, digital media, etc.
“Kile is and will always be my muse,” Tameka says. “ He inspires me to do great things both artistically and in general to help others. He was a guiding genius.”
With the availability of theater and dance in schools dramatically declining from 20% to 3% in the last decade according to the U.S. Department of Education , she realized the need for programs such as Kile’s World, especially in low-income areas.
Because of this, she seeks to eventually open a magnet school with the same concentrations.
“Not only is the Kile’s World Foundation a labor of love, it fulfills a void in a nation where the outlet of artistic expression is being withheld from more children each day,” Kiles World issued in a statement.
On May 30th, Tameka invites fellow Atlantans to a kid-friendly fundraiser in support of the organization at NoCa Restaurant and her boutique Estella Home .
Bring the kids to bounce and slide, and enjoy a performance from Atlanta’s premiere live music group the Jukebox Band .
All proceeds from Estella’s clearance sale will go directly to the foundation.
