The new king of R&B Miguel stopped by The Breakfast Club this week to talk about his collaboration with rapper J. Cole and their new Power Trip video — in which the singer dies :(

“I thought it was an amazing idea. As he was giving me the idea for the treatment, I was already kinda like ‘how dope would it be if I was the boyfriend and he killed me at the end?’ As soon as he said it I said, ‘I’m down.'”

Released on April 9, 2013, the “Power Trip” video now has over 3 million views. The song sits at peak positions — #10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #43 on the Hot 100 this week.

Currently on tour with Alicia Keys, Miguel also spoke on his other new collaborations, including Talib Kweli‘s Come Here and why he’ll work with whoever:

“I just support good music… and I don’t really think there’s levels. I’m a fan of good music regardless of how it is perceived by the public…”

He revealed that he’s planning something special with the second edition of his Art Dealer Chic EP series, which we can’t wait to hear this summer… But hopefully, we can get a video for Kaleidoscope Dream first, damnit.

Given the sexual nature of most of his music, Angela Yee had some racy questions for Miguel in the second half of their interview. Enjoy below!
