2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards Set Social Media Record, Pass ‘Scandal’ & ‘Idol’
The 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which aired live on Telemundo April 25th, saw a nice surge in ratings and set a social media activity record as well.
Seen by 3.2 million adult viewers 18-49, this year’s show had a 3% increase, and ranked #1 across all stations regardless of language in New York and Miami; #2 in Houston outperforming all English language stations; and #3 in Los Angeles outperforming ABC and FOX.
The show delivered double-digit growth in Los Angeles (+16%), Houston (+23%), San Francisco (+25%) and Dallas (+41%), where it delivered its highest rating ever.
It was the #1 broadcast on the Top Daily TrendrrTV Broadcast Chart, resulting in 794,746 social activities, far outpacing Scandal (219,245) and American Idol (205,701).
Daddy Yankee opened the show this year accompanied by the beat of Brazilian drummers, followed by performances from Latin alternative rockers Maná and Robi Draco Roso, bachata kings Romeo Santos and Juan Luis Guerra, Carlos Vives and Michel Teló, and a José José tribute by Italian pop/crossover trio Il Volo.
Reggaeton star Don Omar took home 10 Billboard Latin Music awards and the late Jenni Rivera won six.
