LL Cool J Talks Standing by His Wife Through Cancer in Essence March 2013
Hip-hop legend, actor, and sex symbol LL Cool J covers the March 2013 issue of Essence Magazine for the first time, where he gets a little personal.
He speaks just being Todd, putting family first, and standing by his wife of almost 18 years, Simone Smith, through her battle with cancer.
Now a survivor, Simone was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in 2004 and underwent invasive surgery and two years of rehabilitation.
The two went on to raise over 100,000 for cancer research at a charity event last year.
“I think, at the end of the day, as a man, you should support the woman you’re with. If she’s got a dream, you need to help make that a reality. I’m doing the best I can to do that.”
The rap icon, who’s been in the game for 26 years, will soon release his 13th studio album entitled, Authentic Hip-Hop.
Featuring co-production by The Trackmasters, LL says some people are going to “hate” the “polarizing” offering, which drops on February 12.
LL, who stars on CBS primetime tv show — NCIS: Los Angeles, will once again host the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be held this Sunday, February 10, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles — 8 p.m. ET/PT.
