NYC // Audrey Kawasaki’s ‘Midnight Reverie’ Exhibition | Sept. 8 – Oct. 6
Exactly one a year ago we did a feature on a talented young painter out of Los Angeles, Audrey Kawasaki, who is influenced by both manga comics and art nouveau.
This Fall, the artist will debut brand new oil and graphite works at an upcoming solo show entitled Midnight Reverie at NYC’s Jonathan Levine Gallery.
Well known for her seductive and melancholy female characters on natural grain wood panels, Audrey‘s new pieces are fuller compositions that still possess a famimilar sense of moodiness, purity and enchantment.
“Some of the pieces have windows, like passage-ways into another world, yet it can also feel like limbo or static—wanting to walk through to the other side, but not being able to,” says Audrey. “Others are deep in the make believe, magical, mystical realm. In these, the black parts represent a void, emptiness or the unknown, yet they can also be something real and solid, like holes or shadows.”
